Men I’ve Known is a series of pieces about, as you can imagine, men that I’ve known over the course of my life.
There are no names, descriptions or distinguishing features so I (and you) can read with impunity; only I know who these are about (and maybe the man in question).
The original idea was to write an autobiography in the ‘second person’; using the ‘you’ format. Which, of course, is the first person, you’re just addressing it to someone specific. However, whilst that idea is still there, what has made this project grow is the idea to encompass as many different forms of writing/media as I can in telling of these stories. Prose, poetry, playscript, academic essay and news report are some of the modes through which the men shall become known.
Let’s hear it for the attempted ressurection of the vignette!
