Music

Where is This is my noise music project. Active since 2006, it’s made up of lots of different things.

WiT is currently based in the noise/experimental/harsh noise genre and I’m releasing records in that vein. First record released was In the Privacy of Your Own Home in Nov 2009 on my very own Bored Bear Recordings. My next releases are: a CD-R called Where is This on Deadline Noise Recordings, a 3″cd called Fucker on Hoarse Records and two splits; one with This Box is Empty and one with Timothy A.D.. There are many more releases in the works. MANY. MORE.

Visit the WiTVIRB, WiTWEBSITE (out of date at the moment, due to be completly overhauled asap) or the Bored Bear Blog.

I’m also in lots of bands, most of which are relatively inactive (although some are making stuff at the moment). Here are some of them: Faded Motorway Cronies, Chinesewarballoon, *headdesk*, Feedback Sonata, Medallions of Martha, Magical Love Gentlemen

Writing

My two babies are my plays, A Stint in Your Spotlight, which was performed in 2008 as part of the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival and Perfect Paragraphs which is what I hope they remember me for, were I to die tomorrow, despite the fact that it needs a major rewrite. A portion of Perfect Paragraphs called The Middle Distance was presented as a short to great acclaim in the 2010 IDGTF’s Shorts Programme. I’ve a couple of ideas for plays that I’ve yet to get around to too.

Despite being mostly a playwright, I have an unfinished novel in my drawer called Descent which I will eventually finish as well as a fully furnished idea for a second (Blown). I am working on a collection which spans ten years (1999 – 2009) called Nursery Rhymes for the Section 28 Generation which is comprised mostly of song lyrics, and the occasional poem. There is also a spoken word album of the same name that features a whole other selection of pieces, none of which are in the book, and was made as a christmas present for a friend.

A Stint in Your Spotlight

“Show-business has always been rough but Jack Harrison is washed up at the grand old age of twenty-eight. Following a brief, but illustrious career, Jack’s marriage to his wife Cristal went downhill rapidly as he descended into drug addiction trying to forget who he really wanted – Danny; a premiership footballer and love of his life.

Three years later, Jack’s career is as fractured as his relationships. The drink, drugs and the wild days are long gone and he has become a semi-recluse, living out his life quietly in his apartment until three drama students approach him, wanting to make a play about his life, about his past. Could this be what gets him back on track? Will this be the push that’s needed? And will everything be as it seems?

A Stint in Your Spotlight is funny and touching play about fame, love and playmaking by new Irish playwright, Mark Ward.”

The Middle Distance

“In a place where talking is frowned upon, two men are having a conversation. Jonny has been coming to the sauna more and more, trying to distract himself from the emptiness he’s lost in, looking for some way through. And he finds Stephen, an easy going farmer’s son from Sligo, looking for his own kind of respite.”

The Middle Distance is a new short play by Mark Ward and had its World Premiere in the Cobalt Cafe on Monday 10th May 2010

Perfect Paragraphs

Having written the play, I still haven’t managed to come up with a decent enough blurb/description of it. So watch this space, and all that.
